Nothing's playing an interesting pricing game in India right now. Both the Phone (4a) and Phone (4b) just got fresh 6GB/128GB variants listed on Flipkart, but here's the twist: they're priced higher than what the base models cost when they first launched, even though you're getting less RAM. It's a move that really shows how the market's shifted for these phones.
The Phone (4a)'s new 6GB/128GB variant is going for Rs 39,999, which sounds reasonable until you realize the original 8GB/128GB model debuted at Rs 31,999 back in May. That's an Rs 8,000 jump for a downgrade in memory. The Phone (4b) tells a similar story. Its fresh 6GB/128GB option sits at Rs 35,999, compared to the Rs 34,999 launch price of its 8GB/128GB base variant. So you're paying Rs 1,000 more for less RAM.
What's happening here is pretty telling about Nothing's pricing strategy in India. The 4a launched with three memory tiers (8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB, 12GB/256GB), while the 4b started with two options (8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB). By adding these lower-RAM variants at higher price points than the originals, Nothing's essentially filling a gap without cannibalizing its current lineup. But from a buyer's perspective, it's tough. If you're looking at the 4a today, spending Rs 39,999 for 6GB RAM feels off when the base was cheaper and better-specced just months ago.
The price reality for both phones has shifted significantly since launch. The 4a's 8GB/128GB variant climbed from Rs 31,999 to Rs 44,999, while the 4b's base went from Rs 34,999 to Rs 39,999. These hikes suggest demand hasn't slowed, or Nothing's adjusting its positioning as newer competitors flood the mid-range segment. For buyers considering these phones now, the new 6GB variants might be an option if you're stretching your budget, but they're a weird play for a brand trying to stay competitive.
