Vivo's price strategy in India just took an unexpected turn. Starting September 25th, the company bumped up prices across its X, S, and Y series phones by Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000, with the Vivo X300 FE absorbing the heaviest blow. The compact flagship's base model now costs Rs 89,999, jumping a whopping Rs 15,000 from its original Rs 79,999 launch price just a few months ago.
The X300 FE was always positioned as a uniquely compact flagship. At just 6.31 inches, 7.99mm thick, and 191 grams, it offered flagship specs in a genuinely pocketable form factor. You get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, a 1.5K LTPO AMOLED display, Zeiss-tuned 50MP and periscope cameras, a 6,500mAh battery with 90W wired and 40W wireless charging, plus IP68/IP69 durability. That smaller footprint was the phone's main selling point over other flagship options.
But here's the problem. You can grab other Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 phones starting around Rs 60,000. At nearly Rs 90,000, Vivo's compact design and premium cameras would need to justify a premium of Rs 30,000 over those alternatives. That's a steep ask, even if you specifically want something that actually fits in your pocket.
The Vivo S2 got hit too, jumping Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 to Rs 42,999 for its base variant. This one's different though. The 6.83-inch curved AMOLED display, massive 7,050mAh battery, and 44W charging make it compelling against the Vivo Y51 Pro 5G, which now sits at Rs 34,999. That Rs 8,000 gap actually feels fair when you're comparing upgrade paths in the mid-range segment.
The Y-series hikes sound smaller on paper, but they matter more where buyers are price-sensitive. A Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 increase on budget phones can push them directly against competitors with different processors or more RAM. If you've been eyeing a Y11, Y19s, Y21, Y31t, or Y51 Pro, street prices and competing specs are worth checking before you commit to the new rates.
