Right now, the market's absolutely flooded with screen guards at every price point imaginable, from trusted brands to sketchy unbranded stuff that probably won't survive your first drop. Under the new IS 19348:2025 standard, manufacturers will have to prove their products meet real requirements for glass strength, clarity, adhesive quality, and even features like blue light filtering. The packaging will also need to clearly show the manufacturer, batch number, and thickness so you know exactly what you're getting.
The transition period gives importers and manufacturers more than six months to get their act together, so there's no immediate ban coming. The government's essentially saying low-quality protectors will be phased out once companies have time to test and certify their products. It's not about clearing the shelves overnight, it's about raising the bar for what's allowed to be sold.
For your wallet, there's a real question about pricing. The government hasn't officially said prices will jump, but getting products tested and certified does cost money, and some manufacturers might pass those costs along to you. On the flip side, you'll actually know the protector you're buying won't fail in three months. That's a fair trade-off.
This is the kind of regulation that seems invisible until you realize how many garbage screen protectors you've probably wasted money on over the years. By next April, that problem should finally get a lot better.
